Our affectionate little house cat, safe and happy at home
Jess is staying with us for now. She is neutered, fully recovered and happy indoors with our cats and dogs. She loves strokes and playtime, and any future home must be committed to keeping her indoors for life.

She is safe, loved and happy here. There is no hurry for her to go anywhere.

Thank you to everyone who has enquired about Jess and offered her a loving home. We appreciate the kindness behind those enquiries. Some conversations have included the possibility of letting her outside, so we want to explain clearly why that would not be right for her.
Jess is a very small, slight and trusting little cat, with sight in only one eye. We worry that she would be especially vulnerable to traffic or an encounter with an unfamiliar dog, a fox, a badger or another cat. She has no experience of navigating roads; her only experience of cars has been from the safety of her carrier on trips to the vet.
She is content indoors with our other cats and dogs, enjoys her home comforts and does not ask to go out. We see a happy little house cat whose life can be full of company, play and affection while she stays safely inside.
Jess must be kept indoors for life. We would only reconsider rehoming her for a very special home that specifically wants an indoor cat and wholeheartedly welcomes that commitment. It cannot be a compromise, a trial to see how things go, or an arrangement with the possibility of outdoor access later.
This is about the care this particular little cat needs. We are grateful for every kind offer, and we hope people will understand why we have to be so careful. For now, she will remain with us, where we can keep her safe and give her the care she needs.

Getting to know Jess
“Jess does not just enjoy attention. She positively blossoms in it.”
Jess came to live with us after her previous owner, our much-loved nan, died. She has settled into family life as a bright, confident and very people-focused young cat.
She is happiest when affection becomes a game. She leans into strokes, enjoys gentle tickle play and will chase feathers, string toys, balls and anything pleasantly bouncy. She sometimes chooses a lap and is wonderfully tolerant of being groomed, although being picked up is not her idea of a good time.
Jess is happy indoors with our other cats and dogs. She loves her canine friends, from our giant Newfoundlands to our tiny Pomeranian, and enjoys playing, snuggling and sharing family life with them. She does not ask to go outside. Home already gives her the company, comfort and play she enjoys.

Where Jess can thrive
Plenty of human time
Someone who wants an affectionate companion and will make time for strokes, tickles and interactive play every day. Jess would ideally live with someone who is home for much of the day. A normal working-hours absence five days a week should still be manageable, provided she then has plenty of company in the evenings and at weekends and is not routinely left alone then too.
Kind animal companions
Jess is happy with our other cats and dogs. An only-cat home is not a requirement. Any future companions would need to be gentle and compatible, with careful introductions and space for Jess to feel safe.
Indoors for life
Keeping Jess indoors is essential. Any future family must specifically want a house cat, keep doors and windows secure, and make indoor life happy and interesting. This cannot be a trial or a compromise with the possibility of letting her outside later.
Dog friends are welcome
Jess loves dogs and has played, kissed and snuggled with dogs ranging from giant Newfoundlands to a tiny Pomeranian. Any resident dog must still be safe and respectful around cats.
Everyday life with Jess
Affection
Enjoys being stroked and may choose to sit on a lap.

Loves interactive feather, string, ball and bouncy toys.
Handling
Easy to groom, but does not enjoy being picked up.
Food
Currently eats wet food morning and early evening, with a small amount of dry food.
Litter
Uses a covered tray without a flap and is familiar with wood-pellet litter.
Personality
Confident in the home, friendly and keen to be involved.
Dogs
Actively enjoys playing, kissing and snuggling with both giant and tiny dogs.
Honesty matters
Things to understand before enquiring
The right adopter deserves the whole picture, and Jess deserves someone who is ready for it.
Jess has sight in only one eye. Her right eye has never fully opened; it has been assessed by a vet, who was happy that no treatment was needed. Her small build, limited sight and trusting nature are why we are committed to keeping her safely indoors.
She has occasionally toileted beside the litter tray under a table. If she ever moves, a calm transition, clean trays in quiet places and more than one tray would be important.
Jess is now neutered and fully recovered. Her earlier records list worming and flea treatment, but no vaccination or microchip. Those details and any remaining care would need to be confirmed with Cats Protection before any possible move.
Jess is very gentle, although she has not lived with children in our home. Any children would need to be kind and respectful, and Cats Protection would need to consider the whole household before any possible move.
No payment to the family
If Jess ever moves, let it help another cat too
Jess is staying with us for now. If the right indoor home ever comes along, we will not ask for or accept any payment for her. We would instead ask her new family to make a donation directly to Cats Protection Aberystwyth & District, alongside any adoption fee or arrangements required by the charity, to help other cats receive the care they need.
